RULES AND PARTICIPATION GUIDELINES
The Colibri Vocal Competition is designed to encourage young singers to develop their musical abilities, gain performance experience, and share their talent in a supportive and inspiring environment.
The competition welcomes young vocalists of different levels of experience and places emphasis not only on technical ability, but also on musicality, interpretation, stage presence, and artistic expression.
Eligibility
The competition is open to young vocalists up to 18 years of age.
Participants compete in the age category corresponding to their age on the date of the competition.
Age Categories
- Up to 8 years
- 9–12 years
- 13–15 years
- 16–18 years
The organizers reserve the right to combine age categories if necessary.
Vocal Categories
Participants may compete in the following categories:
- Pop / Contemporary
- Musical Theatre
- Classical Vocal
- Folk / Traditional Vocal
- Jazz
Repertoire
Each participant prepares two vocal selections appropriate for their age and vocal ability.
Songs may be performed in any language.
All repertoire must be appropriate for a family audience. Songs containing explicit language or inappropriate content will not be accepted.
Accompaniment
Participants may perform:
- with a backing track;
- with live accompaniment, when available;
- or a cappella.
Backing tracks may include instrumental accompaniment and background vocals, but must not contain a recorded lead vocal duplicating the participant’s main vocal part.
Performance
All performances must be presented live.
Participants are expected to perform from memory.
Performance time limits and additional technical requirements will be announced by the organizers.
Judging
Participants will be evaluated by a professional panel of judges based on:
- Vocal technique
- Intonation and rhythm
- Musical interpretation
- Artistic expression
- Stage presence
- Overall performance
The judges’ decisions are final.
Awards
Awards may include:

- Second Place
- Third Place
- Honorable Mention
The jury reserves the right not to award every placement in every category.
Registration
Registration must be completed through the official Colibri Competition website by the published deadline.
Registration is considered complete after all required information and participation fees have been received.
Participation fees are non-refundable except if the competition is canceled by the organizers.
Photography and Video
Photography and video recording may take place during the competition.
By participating, contestants and their parents or legal guardians authorize the organizers to use event photographs and video recordings for documentation, archival, promotional, and publicity purposes related to Colibri competitions and Unity in Diversity Arts.
General Rules
Participants, parents, teachers, accompanists, and guests are expected to maintain respectful and professional conduct throughout the event.
The organizers reserve the right to make reasonable changes to the schedule, categories, performance order, or other organizational details when necessary.
Submission of a registration form constitutes acceptance of these Rules and Regulations.
